Case Study: New Orleans
iMapAmerica began a project in 2008 with The Partnership for Youth Development to mobilize young people to map New Orleans in order to create a New Orleans-specific database of youth resource information compiled and maintained by youth for youth.
After a year of mapping and data entry with 75 young people and countless community partners, nolayouthmap.org was born.
nolayouthmap.org contains information on over 1000 youth resources throughout New Orleans and was named as the official directory for Summer Youth Programs by New Orleans Mayor, Mitch Landrieu.
The Mapping Initiative was also awarded an Innovator of the Year Award in 2009 by New Orleans City Business.
